Survival is a Process!

Survival is a process.
May every day be a warm embrace;
a hug in the rain.
The scent of fried plantain.
The gentle breeze licking off the sweat on your forehead,
or the voice of that person
who loves you
even on the days, you forget to love yourself.
When you can’t get up,
those days when there’s a mountain sitting on your chest,
remember that opening your eyes
is victory.
Taking a breath
is victory.
When you wail call your name.
Not one name but all your names;
the names of the multitude you carry
wrapped together like a ball of yarn
and tucked in the farthest corners of your psyche.
Forgive yourself for the mistakes you made
when you thought you knew but had no clue.
Forgive and be kind.
To you.

Wonderful Week…!

This week since Monday has been sunny. The beauty lies in the weather. The sun has been out for some sightseeing, I think. And it’s been casting a golden beam to everything under it.

It is so beautiful today. The air is crisp and refreshing. It’s been glowingly sunny too. So the weather is slightly cold and warm at the same time. And this sunshine is beautiful. This glorious sunshine makes me love summer times. However, I know this is the Fall season.  Continue reading

She Will Live Again!

When he left her
She had spent years with him
That was enough to break her
And slowly extinguish her flame
When he left her
She was supposed to be shattered
But
**********

She began to get used to her new lifestyle
Her solitary moments felt blissful
The food tasted more delicious
Taking a shower at night has never felt so good
Sleep became more peaceful
No one reminded her that she was good for nothing
And
**********

She could still visit friends
She could still laugh hard
She could still sing in the shower
She enjoyed her food in peace
Life felt good even when it ought to taste sour
She could still breathe
But
**********

When he left her
She was supposed to drown in her own tears
She was supposed to mourn his wicked exit
She was supposed to be crushed
And writhe in pain
And curse the day she was born
But
**********

She managed the ordeal too well
She pushed herself to stay strong
She was broken but not shattered
And then it hit her
She didn’t lose anything
Rather she gained everything
And
**********

She wouldn’t let anyone ridicule her again
She wouldn’t let anyone deflate her ego again
She wouldn’t let anyone puncture her self-esteem again
She was free from his insanity
She was free from his evilness
She was free from violence
And
**********

She raised her glasses up
Good riddance to days of nightmares
Good riddance to long nights of horror
Good riddance to a life of torture
She was supposed to miss him
She was supposed to fall apart
But
**********

She gained her dignity back
She gained her strength back
She gained her voice back
She danced to her new freedom
She danced to her new groove
She was broken but not shattered
She will live again
**********

Reflections: Nigeria At 58

It is true that we can’t outline her achievements, accomplishments, and successes as we can obviously see what she has turned out to be. It is very correct if we believe that there is no reason to be happy about the Nigerian Independence day. However, in spite of the unending chorus of disapproval and brouhaha from all quarters, many don’t have the intention of abandoning Nigeria or change even their Nationality. Therefore, regardless of how anybody feels today, Nigeria is our country and we must wish her well whether publicly or in our minds. Continue reading

A Poem Written For Me…!

This poem was written on my birthday (September 9) by one of my Facebook friends. I decided to post it here today. 🙂

Stroll through her timeline
You are sure there to find
accolades that blow the mind
For lots and lots have been said
That it seems needless to say mine
But No, this day has the Lord made
And I’m so rejoicing along with her
For having travelled down thus far. Continue reading

Happy Birthday To Me!

Wow! Another year has come!

To celebrate another Birthday
I am shouting it loud
It’s my birthday today
Yippee! I am so elated
So grateful to God
For His mercies and love
It’s my birthday today
I wonder what the future holds
I wonder how many more years
But I hope all goes well
And I pray the future brings good tidings
The years past has been filled with surprises
And memorable moments
Both good and bad
But such is the essence of life
So, I celebrate today
I celebrate a new milestone
Hoping for the best in the coming years
It’s my birthday today
Here’s to another year
And here’s to many more years
Happy Birthday to me
